Topics of Discussion

I wanted to create a list, perhaps more for me than for you, of intended topics that I want to cover.
These are not in a particular order and if anyone wants me to address a topic, please suggest it.

Historical Perspective of MMORPG's - Why they developed the way they did.
Those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them.

The big problems that need to be addressed -
Content Stream - How to keep players engaged cost effectively.
It is not about eye candy - it is about the game system.
Hard core gamers vrs the Casual gamer.. how to design for both.

How to solve the big problems -
Multiplayer or Many people playing a single player game together?
Solving the Casual vrs hardcore gamer problem.
How to create a dynamic environment.
Solving the content stream.

Effective Business Models.
Service vrs Product orientation.

Design elements-
Story line vrs Chaos Theory
Expressions of creativity
Psychological Hooks

The optimal solution-
A vision of the future and what the ultimate offering would look like.
The problems to solve or this will never come to pass.

Market Trends -
Rise of the new breed of offerings - the socially conscious games.
Browser based games -
The Entertainment Convergence - Look up in the Sky! Is it a play, a movie, a book? It's a Game!

Game reviews -

Peace out..

My chief complaint about gaming is already adressed on this page- I buy the commercial game, play through it, when the game is done, I'm bored with it.

Games like M&B are better, chiefly because of the modding community. If only the Native game were available, I'd still play it once in awhile, but not regularly, as I do M&B with all the varied mods.

I began gaming in 1995 with Knights of Honor, Crusader Kings, the whole series of Age of Empires, Rise of Nations, chiefly to have something to do while spending what seemed an eternity in foreign airport lounges. Now, I only play indie games, like Mount and Blade and The Witcher, because they offer many different ways to play the game via character background in M&B and via decisions made in The Witcher.
I got bored with Baldur's Gate, etc.

I hate MMORPG games, and won't play them. You just level up and up, until finally there is no place to go, then put in the add-on and there is just more of the same. Also, a lot of the online players seem like complete arses to me, because I am an old bat with very little tolerance for teenaged stupidity and discourtesy.

I may make an exception with the M&B online game, but only as an experiment with existing friends from the TW Forum. I likely won't do it very much.

I want to totally immerse myself in another world, preferably one not overloaded with elves and magic, Witcher excepted. I want lots of strategy, not point, click, fire spell or whack with sword, kills. I also want the option of playing as a female, as it is hard to get immersed in a male character unless you are one.

The Pendor mod actually fulfills many of my requirements and has no magic potions or spells, thank God.
It adds a much more interesting layer to M&B.

Keep it up, Jim.

Cheers, Mason
